Meet Ishmael Harris
Get to know Ishmael Harris, a dedicated candidate for Mayor of Bastrop. With a passion for serving the community and a vision for a better Bastrop, Ishmael is committed to bringing positive change and progress to our city.
About The Candidate
Ishmael Harris is a lifelong Bastrop resident, devoted husband, and father of three. Raised in Bastrop, he grew up learning the value of hard work and community from his parents and grandparents. His dedication to the city began at 15 with his first job at the Boys and Girls Club and continued through years of coaching youth sports.
For over 20 years, Ishmael has worked in the Wastewater Department for Austin Water, gaining expertise in infrastructure and city growth. His passion for Bastrop led him to local government in 2019, where he has served on the Planning and Zoning Commission for nearly six years, including as chair. In this role, he has worked to strengthen community relationships, modernize zoning codes, and prioritize residents' needs.
Beyond city leadership, Ishmael has been an active member of the Bastrop Juneteenth Celebration Committee, serving as Vice Chair for four years and helping expand the festival. He also participated in a cultural exchange with Evangeline Parish.
